Cutting the groom’s socks is an old Danish wedding tradition where the male guests overpower the groom to cut the toes off his socks. The saying goes, that when a man after the harvest party kicked off his clogs and, only wearing socks, trotted through the meadow over to the girl on one of the neighbouring farms, the stockings where turned green by the grass. It has been a tradition for a century and the real explanation must be found in the fact that guests want to prevent the groom from making his socks “green” with other women.
